Offseason Transgressions To Make Sophomore A Draft Day Value Despite Looming Suspension
Kansas City Chiefs sophomore wide receiver Rashee Rice is in a ton of trouble, however, I am buying the discount and drafting him everywhere. Rice has become a household name for all the wrong reasons since he was street racing and caused a high-speed accident that left several people injured, and he and his friends chose to leave the scene on foot before police arrived. This choice made things much worse for Rice and ultimately led to him being charged with aggravated assault, the vehicle being the dangerous weapon. This charge comes with enhanced penalties and harsher NFL repercussions as it is a felony under the criminal code. Initially, I thought Rice could escape a suspension given NFL disciplinary history for traffic accidents that do not involve alcohol or a fatality, but the aggravated assault charge leads me to think that Rice could be suspended from three to six games, which will completely tank his fantasy ADP. This is the part where managers should swoop in and draft a player that could once again prove to be a league winner. Rice is a yards-after-the-catch (YAC) monster. He finished with 654 YAC (3rd) and head coach Andy Reid loves to scheme his best players open with plenty of YAC opportunities. We hear the comparison too much, but Rice was utilized similarly to Deebo Samuel, and it led to heavy volume and huge chunk plays as the season went on. His routes are also not too shabby as he averaged 2.49 yards of separation when targeted (3rd) and finished with 2.52 yards per route run (10th), an incredibly sticky stat for predicting wide receiver production. His ADP sits at WR35 in the sixth and seventh rounds, directly in front of Hollywood Brown, but that is with a speculative suspension baked in. Once the suspension comes down from the league, expect Brown's ADP to go up and Rice's to go down, at which point he will become a tremendous value. When he is on the field he will be one of Patrick Mahomes' most consistent targets behind Travis Kelce, and when it comes time for managers to make a playoff push, they are going to want Rice on their squad.
