2024 Outlook from
The Forgotten Piece On An Ascending Offense
There's an optimistic buzz in the air over Chicago with first-overall pick Caleb Williams taking control under center. The Bears' front office, possibly learning from their prior mistakes, is setting up Williams for immediate success. D.J. Moore, the leading receiver on last year's squad, remains with the team. After a career year, veteran Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen was brought over from Los Angeles. Then, the Bears drafted Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick. Where does that leave tight end Cole Kmet, who finished second on the Bears in every major receiving category? The aerial attack may have more juice but it will be difficult for Kmet to repeat his TE8 season (73 catches, 719 yards, six touchdowns). With his new spot in the pecking order and the boosted value of tight ends that finished behind him in 2023 (Mark Andrews & Dalton Kincaid), Kmet is being drafted as a TE2 in 2024. There will be weeks that Kmet will be a decent-to-strong spot start, but hoping for consistency from Kmet this go-around isn't a smart strategy.
