San Francisco's First Round Pick Buried On Depth Chart
The San Francisco 49ers raised a few eyebrows when they selected Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. The move indicated one of Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel would be traded to make room for the rookie. However, no trade occurred and GM John Lynch insists both Aiyuk and Samuel will remain with the club. While that's great news for 49ers fans, it's bad news for Pearsall's redraft outlook. San Francisco rarely uses three wide receiver sets, and that leaves Pearsall as the odd man out. He's a good route runner, can hack it from all three receiver positions, and wins at all levels of the field. Pearsall is a talented player, but unless there's an injury to Aiyuk or Samuel, Pearsall figures to have a small role as a rookie. He's a better dynasty football investment than he is a redraft selection. Ranked as RotoBaller's WR77, Pearsall should be left undrafted in traditional redraft leagues, but managers should be ready to pounce on waivers if injuries strike the 49ers depth chart.
